now that i've been away from the cult going on 4 years, one huge absurdity that sticks out in my mind is that we were doing things out of service to an invisible king.

let me repeat an invisible king, whose only proof that he existed was through a global public relations magazine distribution campaign.

no visible show of this king's sovreignty, no activity by this king to act on his campaign platform.

This experience is absolutely mind-blowing!! I remember much of this as I was at Bethel at the time, but upon learning even more of the details, I have so much respect for Mariuca. And what a pathetic cult JWs are - anyone who thinks they are God-directed needs to read this experience.

I feel Mariuca's story has the potential to be as powerful and impactful in scope as someone like a Barb Anderson, because it gives you some of the inner workings of things at Bethel!

Darth: Yes, that line really puts in perspective how pathetic the JW concept of dating is. Because you really don't know a person until you live with them. But in JW world, you go on a dates in a group setting (museum, etc) and with chaperones. Its even worse at the Bethel level. So its no surprise that there's much sexual incompatability along with the emotional and psychological incompatability.
